Post by Admin Fri Nov 17 2017, 10:04

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT
The von Karman Institute is seeking for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join its Department of Turbomachinery and Propulsion. The position is initially fixed-term for 2 years, but can be extended.
Job Description
As part of a team developing novel methodologies for the design of aero-engine turbomachinery components, you will be responsible for the design and optimization of a high-pressure turbine stage using state-of-art CFD simulations and advanced optimization strategies. In the pursuit of high-efficiency turbines by advanced shape optimization for turbine flow control, the project targets the optimization of the turbine rotor tip and hub platforms. A significant part of the work will be dedicated to the setup of accurate numerical simulations of engine-representative rotor tip and hub disc cavity flows. The post-doctoral work will deliver a set of optimum turbine geometries that will be then experimentally tested in the short-duration transonic turbine rig of the von Karman Institute.
Skills
You will have a PhD (or near completion) in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, preferably on a subject related to turbomachinery design. A solid background in the following subjects is valuable: Turbomachinery, Design optimization, Computational Fluid Dynamics. Knowledge of Linux/Unix environment, programming languages (such as bash scripting, Python, Matlab) and expertise in turbomachinery CFD solvers (such as CFX, Numeca Fine Turbo/Open, etc.) may be beneficial. Applicants with numerical backgrounds will be given preference. Working knowledge of CAD software (such as CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, etc.) is also an asset. Fluent knowledge of English (oral and written) is mandatory.
Candidates are expected to be self-motivated, hardworking and team players.
How to apply
You will be required to upload a covering letter, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV, publication list and the contact of two referees as part of your application.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Assistant Professor Sergio Lavagnoli (lavagnoli@vki.ac.be).

  • Aptitudes à la communication, aisance relationnelle et goût pour le travail en équipe ;
  • Goût pour la recherche associant théorie et expérimental et pour la coopération internationale ;
  • Rigueur, autonomie et sens de l’organisation.

Nature du contrat

  •     CDD de 24 mois (12 mois renouvelable une fois)
  •     Le poste est disponible à compter du 1/11/2017

Lieu de travail
Sorbonne Université, Institut Jean le Rond d'Alembert, UMR CNRS 7190
campus Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris centre) et Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole

Contacts et procédure de candidature

Equipe scientifique
François Ollivier – francois.ollivier@upmc.fr
Jacques Marchal– jacques.marchal@upmc.fr

Post-doctoral positions Empty 12 months post-doctoral position at ISVR

Post by Admin Thu Sep 14 2017, 16:31

The Faculty of Engineering and the Environment of the Institute of Sound and Vibration recruits a Research Fellow for 12 month fixed term contract (From £29,301 to £34,956 depending on experience).

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow or Senior Research Assistant to join the Signal Processing and Control Group of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. The successful applicant will work as a part of a team on the development of intelligent acoustic systems that combine directional microphone array beamforming with active noise cancellation technology. The aim of the technology is to provide the user with an enhanced and adaptable acoustic experience in a variety of acoustic environments. The successful applicant will, therefore, benefit from a varied project that will involve acoustics, signal processing and adaptive control. The research is supported and being carried out in collaboration with a large telecommunications company and, therefore, will provide the successful applicant with exposure to both academic and industrial research perspectives.
This may open a variety of different future career pathways for the successful applicant. The successful applicant will have a PhD in acoustical engineering, signal processing, control or a related area. In particular, a background in the fields of active noise control and microphone array signal processing would be ideally suited to role. Additionally, the ideal candidate would have experience in the design and implementation of complete acoustic signal processing systems from the system hardware through to the signal processing.
Although the position is initially for a fixed term of 12 months, this may be extended based on future funding success.
Informal enquiries are welcomed by contacting Dr Jordan Cheer: j.cheer@soton.ac.uk
